Onecote is a rural parish known for its open countryside, farmland, and strong sense of community in a peaceful setting with a rich local heritage and valued rural character. It is set within the Staffordshire Moorlands and the Peak District National Park and includes the villages of Onecote and Ford. We work to represent and support the local community, helping to maintain and enhance the parish for residents and visitors alike.
The Parish Council's responsibilities include: • Commenting on planning applications where appropriate, using local knowledge to reflect the interests of the community; • Maintaining the cemetery grounds and managing the administration of burial plots; • Supporting the work of a lengthsman, who carries out tasks such as grass verge cutting, maintenance of two old telephone boxes and a bus shelter. This service is supported by a grant from Staffordshire Moorlands District Council. • Owning and maintaining several local assets, including the telephone boxes in Onecote and Ford, the cemetery on Douse Lane, the redundant bus shelter in Onecote, and benches at the top of Douse Lane and at the viewpoint looking out towards The Roaches on Morridge. We also liaise with other bodies, including Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, Staffordshire County Council, and the Peak District National Park Authority, on issues affecting the parish and of concern to residents. We are always ready to listen to parishioners’ concerns and comments on any matters relating to the parish. Your views are important in helping us serve the community effectively.
